Greater Toronto Area solar directory

GTA solar companies, ranked by one published formula

Solar quotes are hard to compare because almost none of the cost is the panels. SolarPanelFinder lists the Greater Toronto Area companies that design, install, wire and service rooftop systems, orders them by one published formula, and shows you what the job is actually made of before anyone knocks on your door.

Ordered by one published formula

Which solar installers rank highest right now?

These 8 companies sit at the top of the Greater Toronto Area dataset under the published formula, not because of anything they paid. Each card carries the real Google rating and review count, and each profile lists which details that company publishes and which it does not. We do not check licences, insurance or WSIB coverage, and we do not visit or contact these businesses.

6 trades, one dataset

What kind of solar work do you need done?

Solar is not one trade. The company that designs an array is often not the one that pulls the wire, and the firm that replaces a dead inverter may never install a new system at all. SolarPanelFinder splits the Greater Toronto Area into 6 categories so you land on specialists rather than on whoever bought the biggest ad. Behind them sits a dataset of 161 businesses scored under one published formula, at an average of 4.5★ across 64 rated companies. Each category page ranks the companies working in that trade, shows which details their public record does and does not include, and links to a researched cost guide for that exact job. Pick the one that matches your project.

Sourced Canadian pricing

What does solar actually cost in Toronto?

Installed residential solar, Ontario average

$2.42 to $3.50

per watt installed (CAD) (Solar Calculator Canada, Ontario Solar Calculator (2026))

5 kW system, before incentives

$12,000 to $17,500

per system (CAD) (Green Building Canada, Solar Panels Cost in Canada (updated 14 Jan 2026))

A published range will never match your quote, because the roof pitch, the number of array faces, the age of the electrical service and the run back to the panel do most of the pricing. The guides break each job into those parts and attribute every number to the Canadian source it came from, so you can tell which line on a quote is normal and which one needs a question.

Coverage by area

Where in the GTA are these companies?

Each of the 161 listings is pinned to a Toronto neighbourhood, borough or GTA municipality, which currently covers 30 mapped areas from the downtown core out through North York, Scarborough and Etobicoke to Mississauga, Vaughan and Markham. By listed-company count the deepest coverage sits in Toronto (49), Mississauga (18), Markham (15), Brampton (10), Oakville (9). Solar crews cover a wider radius than most trades, so an area page is a starting shortlist rather than a boundary, and each one ranks the local companies by the same formula used everywhere else on the site. Three steps, no account

How do you use SolarPanelFinder?

Three steps, none of which cost anything. Read the ranked list for the trade you need, learn what the job is built from so a quote is readable, and you send a request to one.

  1. Read the ranked list

Open any of the 6 categories or your own area and see the companies in order, with the published score each position is built on.

  2. Learn what the job costs

The cost guide for that trade breaks the work into its parts and names the source behind every figure, so you can read a quote line by line.

  3. Send a request

A company that has claimed its listing publishes the number it wants you to call. For every other row, the request form reaches SolarPanelFinder.

Arithmetic, not opinion

What is a ranking here actually based on?

Every company gets one score out of 100, and it is the sum of three parts. Its Google rating, blended with the dataset average of 4.61★ using a 10-review prior so that a 5.0 built on 4 reviews lands below a 4.8 built on 300, plus review volume, is worth 40. What the company states on its own website is worth 35: how long it says it has been going, whether it says it is licensed or insured, which trade bodies and installer programmes it names. How complete and reachable its public record is, from photographs and posted hours to whether its website answered when we fetched it, is worth 25. Scores run 16 to 88 across all 161 listings, and no payment changes any of it. We do not check licences, insurance or WSIB coverage, and we do not visit or contact these businesses.

Before you sign

What should you ask a solar installer before signing?

A solar contract commits your roof for decades, and the questions below are the ones that separate a quote you can hold someone to from a number on a page. Ask every installer the same list and compare the answers side by side.

  1. How old is the roof, and do you recommend redoing it before the array goes on?
  2. Which panels and inverters are you quoting, and how long is each separate warranty? What the equipment tiers cost
  3. Micro-inverters, optimisers or a string inverter for my shading, and why that one?
  4. Who files the building permit, the ESA notification and the utility connection application?
  5. What annual output does this design model, and what assumptions is that built on?

SolarPanelFinder questions, answered

How does SolarPanelFinder decide which solar company ranks first?

One formula, published in full on the methodology page, applied the same way to every listing. Each company gets a single score out of 100 from three things: its Google rating adjusted for how many reviews stand behind it, so within that pillar a perfect score built on a handful of reviews scores below a strong score built on hundreds; what the company states on its own website, such as how long it says it has been going, and whether it says it holds an electrical licence and carries insurance; and how complete and reachable its public record is. The second of those is what a company wrote about itself and nobody here has checked it against any registry. Nothing can be bought.

Does SolarPanelFinder check that an installer is licensed or insured?

No, and this is worth being blunt about. We do not check licences, insurance or WSIB coverage, and we do not visit or contact these businesses. What you see on a profile is what the public record shows: the Google rating, the review count, and which details the company publishes about itself. Confirming an ECRA/ESA licence number, liability insurance and WSIB coverage is your job before you sign, and any real installer will hand those over on request.

Is SolarPanelFinder free to use?

Yes, for homeowners and for the companies listed. Browsing all 161 businesses and reading the cost guides costs nothing, and a company cannot pay to appear higher or to keep a rival out. There is no account to create and nothing to cancel. When you find the firm you want, you send it a request from its profile. A company that has claimed its listing also publishes the number it wants you to call.

Which parts of the GTA does SolarPanelFinder cover?

Every listing is pinned to a specific Toronto neighbourhood, borough or GTA municipality, which currently spans 30 mapped areas across 6 service categories. Solar crews travel further than most trades, so an area page shows the companies based in and around it rather than only those with an address on that street.

How current are the ratings on SolarPanelFinder?

Every rating and review count comes from a public Google Maps profile, captured for the August 2026 dataset, which currently averages 4.5 stars across the rated companies. Rankings are recalculated when the data is refreshed, so a company that has picked up reviews since the last pass will not show them until then.
