Privacy Policy
Last updated
This policy sets out what personal information SolarPanelFinder collects, what is done with it, and what you can ask us to do about it. The site serves the Greater Toronto Areaand is operated from Ontario, Canada. Personal information is handled in line with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Using the site means you accept this policy. Effective date: September 7, 2026.
What information is collected?
Almost nothing, because there is no form on this site any more. There is one way to reach us, an email address, so what we hold about you is whatever you chose to write in an email, plus the address you sent it from. Standard server logs record your IP address and browser type so the site can be kept secure and working, and the analytics described below counts your visit. We never ask for financial account details, and you should not send them.
Until August 19, 2026 there were two forms here, one for quote requests and one for corrections. Both were removed. The route behind them wrote to storage that is read-only on the host and had no notification configured, so it answered every message with an error and kept nothing. If you sent something through either form and want to know what is held, write to hello@solarpanelfinder.ca: the honest answer is that we expect it to be nothing.
What is it used for?
An email you send is used to act on the correction, removal or question it describes, and to reply to you. Nothing you send is sold, none of it feeds advertising, and it is not passed to any listed company, and what you send through the quote form is passed to one, with your consent. Server logs are used only for security, debugging and blocking abuse.
Who else receives anything about you?
No listed business, ever. Say that plainly, because this page used to say the opposite. It stated that when you sent a quote request, your name, contact information and project description went to solar companies listed in the category and area you selected. That disclosure never happened. No part of this site has ever read the company list when a request came in, and no listed business has ever been sent anything about a visitor. The sentence was wrong from the day it was written and it was removed, with the form, on August 19, 2026.
Three companies do handle something about you, because running a website is not possible without them. Naming them is the point of this section, and until August 31, 2026 this page said “nobody” instead, which was wrong:
- Vercel Inc. hosts the site. Every request your browser makes reaches its servers, and its ordinary logs record your IP address, your browser type, which page you asked for and when. That is how the site is served and kept secure. How long Vercel keeps those logs is set by Vercel, not by this site.
- Google LLC receives the analytics described in the next section. That is a record of page views rather than anything you typed.
- Forward Email carries mail sent to the address on this site, and passes it to a mailbox hosted by Google. If you write to us, both of them handle the whole of what you wrote. There is no form here, so this only applies if you choose to send an email.
Nobody else. Nothing about you is sold, nothing feeds advertising bought by this site, and nothing is passed to a company listed in the directory except what you send through the quote form, with your consent.
Are there cookies or analytics?
Yes. This site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages get read. It sets two cookies in your browser, _ga and _ga_7XHJZ2Z7DQ, and both last about 13 months. They record which pages you opened, roughly which region you are in, and which site you arrived from. They are not used to identify you and nothing here is sold. This site loads no advertising pixel of its own: there is no Meta, LinkedIn or TikTok tag, and no ad network is given a place on any page. What we can tell you about Google's own tag is what it does on the wire. Each page view is sent twice, once to google-analytics.com and once to google.com, which is Google's advertising domain. What Google then does with a visit inside its own services is Google's decision and not something this site can see or promise about, so this page no longer claims there is no cross-site tracking. Data sent to Google is processed outside Canada, in the United States. If you would rather not be counted, install Google's opt-out browser add-on, or block cookies for this site in your browser settings. Nothing on the site breaks if you do.
One other thing is stored on your device, and it is not a cookie. On a phone, closing the call bar at the bottom of a company profile saves a note that you closed it, so it stays closed while you keep browsing. It is held in your browser's session storage, it is never sent anywhere, and it is gone the moment you close the tab.
Until August 19, 2026 this section said there were no third-party analytics on the site, and promised that the policy would be updated before any were added. The analytics tag went live that morning and this page still said the opposite for the rest of the day. That promise was not kept, and this paragraph stays here rather than being quietly removed.
How is business listing data handled?
The directory is built from public information: company names, addresses, phone numbers, websites, ratings and reviews taken from Google Maps and from the companies' own sites. Most of that is business information rather than anything private. One part of it is not, and until August 31, 2026 this page said flatly that none of it was personal data, which was wrong. Company profiles carry a “What customers say” section that quotes Google reviews, and each quote shows the reviewer's first name, their star rating and roughly when they wrote it. A review is somebody's opinion published under their name, so it is personal information about that person, and PIPEDA treats it that way even though they posted it publicly on Google. If one of those quotes is yours and you would rather it were not here, write to the address below and say which company page it is on. It will be taken off, and you do not have to explain why. If you own or represent a listed business and want the record corrected or taken down, write to hello@solarpanelfinder.ca. Give the business name as it appears on the page and say what should change. Correction and removal requests are acted on, and you do not need to be the owner to report something that is wrong.
What are your rights under PIPEDA?
You can ask what personal information is held about you, ask for a copy, ask for it to be corrected, and withdraw consent to its use. Send any of those to hello@solarpanelfinder.ca from the address you used, and describe the request. There is no limit to add here any more: nothing about you was ever sent to a listed company, so there is no other copy of it in anyone else's system.
How does SolarPanelFinder comply with CASL?
Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation governs commercial electronic messages. Email from this site is transactional only: a reply to a request you sent, or a follow-up about that specific job. There is no newsletter and no promotional list. If optional marketing email is ever introduced it will be opt-in, and every message will carry a working unsubscribe link, as CASL requires.
How long is your data kept?
Email is kept for as long as it takes to deal with what it is about, then deleted. Server logs and analytics are not kept by this site at all: they sit with Vercel and with Google, on their own schedules, and this site does not set or control how long either holds them. Reasonable technical and organizational safeguards protect what is held, though no transmission over the internet is ever perfectly secure.
Your information is stored and processed outside Canada. The site is run from Ontario, but all three of the companies named above are United States companies: Vercel Inc. of San Francisco, Google LLC, and Forward Email LLC of Delaware. Analytics data goes to Google in the United States on every page view. Nothing here is restricted to Canadian servers. While your information is in another country it can be reached by the courts and authorities of that country, and using this site means accepting that.
How do you raise a privacy question?
Write to hello@solarpanelfinder.ca, which is the only channel this site operates and is read by a person. If this policy changes materially, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Our terms of service cover the rest of your use of the site.
What happens to what I send through the quote form?
If you fill in the quote form, we pass your name, contact details and your description of the job to one company listed in your area, so they can quote the work. One company, never a list, and never a pool of firms bidding against each other for you. The form will not send until you tick the box that says so, and that tick is recorded with the date and the exact sentence you agreed to. If you change your mind afterwards, write to us and we will delete what you sent.
Nothing else about you goes anywhere. Reading this site sends nobody anything.SolarPanelFinder sells no leads and no company can buy a better position: the order on every list comes from a published formula. When you call a company from a profile here, that call goes straight to the company, and we are not told it happened.
