About SolarPanelFinder
Last updated By The SolarPanelFinder Rooftop Desk
SolarPanelFinder is an independent directory of the companies that install, wire, service and design solar across the Greater Toronto Area. It exists because a homeowner comparing three solar quotes has no way to tell which of the three is a long-standing local installer and which one appeared last spring. This page covers who builds the directory, where the data comes from, and what happens when something on it is wrong.
Who compiles SolarPanelFinder?
The SolarPanelFinder Rooftop Desk, working independently of every company on the site. We do not own, operate, invest in or take payment from any solar installer, and none of them has any say in where they appear. The team assembles the dataset from public Google Maps records, runs the formula published on the methodology page over it, and reads every price guide before it goes live.
What does the directory actually do?
One thing, and it is worth being clear about the limit. It orders 161 solar companies across 8 categories under one published formula and shows you what each profile does and does not contain, so a thin record looks thin instead of looking polished. It does not take quote requests and it does not introduce you to anyone. Until August 19, 2026 this page said it passed your request to listed companies; that was never true and the form it referred to has been removed.
How is this paid for, if rankings are not for sale?
Right now it is not. The directory is free to use and free to be listed in, and it earns nothing today. If that changes, the revenue will come from something clearly labelled as promotion and sitting outside the ranking, and this page will say so before it appears. The reason is not idealism: a ranked list that can be bought tells you nothing, and a list that tells you nothing has no reason to exist.
What rules does SolarPanelFinder hold itself to?
Four, applied to every page. Placement is never sold. Ratings are quoted from public Google Maps profiles and nowhere else. Every price names the source it came from. And anyone, owner or not, can challenge a record. The fourth matters most, because a directory built from scraped public data is wrong somewhere by definition and the only question is whether it stays wrong.
Placement is not for sale
Position comes from a formula published in full, and no company has ever paid to move within it. If promotion is ever sold it will be labelled as promotion and kept out of the ranking.
Ratings are Google's, quoted as-is
Every star rating and review count is read from a public Google Maps profile. We do not write, solicit, buy, filter or edit reviews, and we cannot remove a bad one for a company that asks.
Every price names its source
Cost figures are quoted from a named Canadian contractor, supplier or authority and shown next to that name, so you can open the source and check the number rather than trusting us.
Anything here can be challenged
Write to hello@solarpanelfinder.ca to correct a detail or ask for a profile to come down. You do not have to own the business to report something wrong, and the request is read either way.
What does SolarPanelFinder not check?
We do not check licences, insurance or WSIB coverage, and we do not visit or contact these businesses. A high position means a company scores well on the published formula: a strong public review record, informative statements on its own site, and a fairly complete profile. It is not a statement that the work is good, that the paperwork is in order, or that the business will still be trading when a warranty claim comes due. Before you sign anything, ask for the ECRA/ESA contractor licence number, current liability insurance and WSIB clearance, and confirm them at the source.
What is in the dataset?
The August 2026 dataset holds 161 Greater Toronto Area solar businesses across 8 categories and 30 mapped areas. Only 6 of those categories hold enough companies to earn a page of their own, which is why the header lists 6 and not 8. 90 companies carry a Google rating. 64 of those also carry at least three reviews, and that group averages 4.5 stars with a median of 17 reviews each, 40.6% of them at 4.8 stars or better. The ranking formula uses the wider pool of all 90 rated companies, whose mean is 4.61 stars, which is the number the methodology page works from. Each company is pinned to a neighbourhood, borough or municipality rather than to the region as a whole.
See exactly how the ranking is calculatedHow do I reach the team?
By email, at hello@solarpanelfinder.ca, which is the only channel this site runs. It handles listing corrections, removal requests and general questions. There is no phone line. There used to be a form here instead; it returned an error to everything sent through it and stored nothing, so it was replaced with an address that works.

This site does not take quote requests and passes nothing to anyone. Every profile shows the company's own phone number and website, so you contact whoever you want to, directly.
